The aims of the club are to provide opportunities for the rural community of West Buckland and the surrounding area to enjoy social gatherings with speakers and other entertainment, and also enjoy outings and a Christmas Lunch. Membership is free and is open to everyone regardless of age. Members meet at 10.00 a.m. on the first Thursday of most months (not May or December) in the Village Hall. Come and meet new and old friends and have a natter over a cup of coffee and biscuits, possibly win a prize in the raffle and then enjoy the topic of the guest speaker, all for a bargain £2.00 entry fee.
In the past 10 years or so, membership has grown, activities have been varied and the monthly speakers have given interesting talks on a wide variety of subjects such as the Antarctic, South West England, Community Policing, and West Country Smuggling. Away day coach trips in 2022 include the Royal Mint, Mapperton House, Abbotsbury Swannery and Gardens, and Gloucester Quay. A 3-hour boat trip from Bristol and an afternoon tea at Torquay are also scheduled.
We hold our AGM in November and this includes a buffet for members to enjoy. The year concludes in December with a very popular Christmas Lunch party. In 2022 it will be held at the Beambridge Inn. If you are new to the Village or have lived here for a while, come along and give it a try. A warm welcome will await you.
