The aims of the club are to provide opportunities for the rural community of West Buckland and surrounding area to enjoy social gatherings with speakers and other entertainment, also outings and Christmas Lunch. Membership is free and is open to everyone regardless of age.
The club currently meet at 10.30 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month (occasional exceptions) in the Village Hall. Come and meet new friends and have a natter over a cup of coffee and biscuits, win a prize on the raffle and then enjoy the topic of the guest speaker.
2012 saw the club go from strength to strength. Membership has grown, activities are varied and the monthly speakers have given interesting talks on a wide variety of subjects such as the Antarctic, South West England, Community Policing, and The Black & White Minstrels.
Away days included Bicton Gardens and Otter Nurseries, Bickleigh Mill and various shorter lunch trips. These shorter lunch trips are ideal for those wanting to catch up with member friends but have to get back to walk the dog etc!
In 2013 we have a broad variety of activities arranged which will include various lunch trips, and day outings such as A River Dart Boat Trip, Longleat House and Gardens, Hestercombe and The West Somerset Railway. Speaker’s topics are varied including The City of Bath Nooks and Crannies, Viking Women and the History of the Teddy Bear. Annually we hold our AGM in November and this includes a Cheese and Wine Buffet for members to enjoy. The year concludes in December in the form of a Christmas Lunch party with about 40 members already signed up for our festivities at Oake Manor.
If you are new to the Village or have lived here for a while come along and give it a try. A warm welcome will await you.
