The aims of the club are to provide opportunities for the rural community of West Buckland and the surrounding area to enjoy social gatherings with speakers and other entertainment, and also enjoy outings and a Christmas Lunch. Membership is free and is open to everyone regardless of age. Members meet from 9.45 a.m. on the first Thursday of most months (not May or December) in the Village Hall. Come and meet new and old friends and have a natter over a cup of coffee and biscuits, possibly win a prize in the raffle and then enjoy the topic of the guest speaker, all for a bargain £3.00 entry fee.
In the past 10 years or so, membership has grown, activities have been varied and the monthly speakers include interesting talks on a wide variety of subjects such as the Antarctic, Devon & Somerset Air Ambulance, Born Free Foundation, and The Bristol Channel Islands.
Away day coach trips include Haynes Motor Museum, a trip on the Paignton Steam railway followed by a River Dart cruise, an excursion over Exmoor with lunch, and a visit to Stourhead National Trust. We hold our AGM in November and this includes a buffet for members to enjoy. The year concludes in December with a very popular Christmas Lunch at a local venue.
If you are new to the Village or have lived here for a while, come along and give it a try. A warm welcome will await you.
